Beaulieu Abbey PCC Synod Report 2019-2020
The Lyndhurst Deanery Synod has met on four occasions during 2019/20.
March 2019 All Saints Milford on Sea
June 2019 St Andrews Dibden Purlieu
October 2019 St Thomas Lymington
March 2020 St Matthews Netley Marsh
All the meetings had representation from at least one of our elected Synod representatives and when available our Rector.
The meetings follow a common theme with the first part given to a specific topic, usually with an outside speaker who is an authority on the topic.
Much of the year has been taken up with discussion of the restructuring of the Waterside Parishes, mainly in the Totton area where smaller parishes will merge.
The Winchester Diocese is encouraging Deaneries to be more active in working together to reduce costs and make more efficient use of available resources.
During the most recent Synod at St Matthews Netley Marsh we had a brief presentation from the leader of the Lighthouse Ministries whose focus is on Children’s and Family Ministries. He offers his services to parishes in the Deanery.
One of the features of the Lyndhurst Deanery is the arranging and managing the Church Tent at the New Forest Show. This will be the 50th year of this Ministry and the final year that Rev Barry will be leading the team. He advised the Synod that the responsibility for this important will be taken over by the vicar of Lyndhurst, Rev David Potterton.
The position of Deanery Treasurer has been vacant for a number of years (no accounts have been published since 2017) a new treasurer has now been appointed.
A number of Parishes in our Deanery actively support churches and parishes in Rwanda. Visit reports are a regular feature of the Synod meetings.
Fuller details of the Synod meetings may be obtained from your Synod representatives.
