Prayers for Mothering Sunday March 22

Editors Note!  These prayers would have been read out as our Intercessions on Mothering Sunday, March 22.  Due to the national emergency caused by the outbreak of Corona virus, all Church Services throughout the United Kingdom have been cancelled.  We hope you will find these prayers a comforting alternative, as you pray away from the Abbey Church

The Fourth Sunday of Lent Mothering Sunday

As we begin our time of prayer, as we come into your presence O lord, wherever we are at this time of great concern for the wellbeing of all humanity,

Let us pray for the Church and for the world. Giving thanks for Justin Archbishop of Canterbury, praying for all faith leaders, and for the leaders of the nations. We pray that we may be strengthened by the knowledge of your unending love for us, knowing that in the most challenging of times, you are with us always.

Lord in your mercy Hear our prayer

We pray for our health services, for the NHS and Public Health England in their efforts to contain the coronavirus. We give thanks for Nurses and Doctors as they seek to care for those who become unwell. We pray for those who are especially vulnerable, those self - isolating at home, those who feel anxious or afraid. Comfort them and give them courage.

Lord in your mercy Hear our prayer

We pray for those working to stock our supermarkets, giving thanks for delivery drivers.   Let us be mindful of others needs, knowing that you provide enough for all of us. We pray for all students and teachers, for schools, colleges and universities, that those who have been revising for final examinations, that they will have understanding and acceptance that ensure their efforts are rewarded and grades attained. We pray for businesses, for those facing employment uncertainty. We give thanks for the provisions that our Government is making to support our nation. This is a global emergency and so we pray that countries may be united in their efforts. Lord, bring healing and wholeness to all peoples and all nations.

Lord in your mercy Hear our prayer

Lord we thank you for being with us, for our homes and for our families, help us always to remember that you have triumphed over death and pain, and that in your power and strength, we can overcome all our fears.

Lord in your mercy Hear our prayer

We pray for the sick, for those who suffer in body or mind, may they know your presence, may they feel your love upon them, may their pain be eased, their fever stilled, and their heart be at peace. And for those who will de this day, into your arms we commend them, where there is no more death or sorrow or pain, but only eternal peace. And in humble trust we place ourselves and all peoples with Mary, Paul, Katharine and all the Saints into the care of your unceasing love.

Merciful Father Accept these prayers for the sake of your son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
