As you know, we are unable to have our usual Glyndebourne at Beaulieu performance this year due to the Coronavirus Pandemic.
However we are delighted to say that Virtual Glyndebourne at Beaulieu 2020 put together by Music at Beaulieu and Wessex Glyndebourne Association creating an online concert in 3 parts that will be published in July 2020. The three videos will be displayed in this page on the specific dates/times of release shown below.
The singers are all former members of the Glyndebourne chorus who have gone on to develop successful careers in opera. The accompanist is Matthew Fletcher from the Glyndebourne music staff, who has performed at the Beaulieu concert for the past several years.
The artists will be performing from their own homes, even while singing together in the ensemble pieces. The accompaniments were all recorded courtesy of Glyndebourne, who made available one of their recital rooms. Thus, as well as providing enjoyable entertainment, the concert will be a reminder of the limitations we have all been experiencing because of the Covid-19 crisis.
Here is the programme for each of the three parts of the concert:
I dreamt I dwelt in marble halls (Balfe—The Bohemian Girl)
O wie Ängstlich (Mozart—Die Entführung aus dem Serail)
Pafto, parto (Mozart—La Clemenza di Tito)
Dio, Che Nell'alma Infondere Amor (Verdi—Don Carlo)
Quel guardo il cavaliere (Donizetti—Don Pasquale)
Part3: 8th July 2020 at 7pm
Svegliatevi nel core (Handel—Giulio Cesare)
Madamina, il catalogo e questo (Mozart—Don Giovanni)
Chant d’amour (Bizet)
Parigi o cara (Verdi—La Traviata)
Song to the Moon (Dvořàk—Rusalka)
Come Away, Death (Quilter—Three Shakespeare Songs)
Mistress MineBlow, BlowSoave sia il vento (Mozart—Così fan Tutte)
(Concert part 3 video will be here)
The artists taking part are:
Aoife O’Sullivan (soprano)
Victoria Simmonds (mezzo-soprano)
Paul Hopwood (Tenor)
Timothy Dickinson (bass-baritone)
Matthew Fletcher (accompanist)
Aoife, Victoria and Timothy are all former Wessex award winners. Matthew has been accompanist for the past several years at Beaulieu. All four singers were members of the Glyndebourne Festival chorus at an early stage in their careers, and Matthew regularly performs the role of répétiteur at Glyndebourne.
Nova Foresta Classical Players return after a stunning performance of an all-Elgar programme in 2018. Conducted by Paul Ingram, their programme, with a full string orchestra, will include Elgar’s Introduction and Allegro and Serenade for Strings.
We are delighted to welcome Portsmouth Cathedral Choir to Music at Beaulieu for the first time. A choir of 30 singers will perform a programme of music spanning from the Renaissance period to the present day.
Accompanied children under 16 are admitted free to all our concerts except Glyndebourne at Beaulieu and our Jazz concert.
The door opens at 6.15 pm for all our concerts.
Seats for Glyndebourne and Jazz concerts are reserved when you book and are identified by row and seat number. The seat position reservation numbers will be on your ticket. Any numbers on your ticket for all other concerts are purely for our own accounting system and are not seat position reservations. If you want a good seat for these concerts, arrive early!
Please note the front row of the gallery is no longer in use at any concert for safety reasons.
